The inductor is part of the melting furnace and is responsible for creating a clear working magnetic flux. Cylindrical inductors for melting furnaces are commonly used in melting furnaces. Often, it is made of a cooled copper tube of rectangular section or round.

The inductor is usually made of copper profiled tubing, which reduces the gap between the inductor gap and the molten metal. This contributes to an increase in electrical efficiency several times. It is made of M1 copper pipe.

This provides the following requirements:

  • Electricity losses are minimal;
  • Passage of the calculated amount of cooling water;
  • The estimated number of turns is located along the length of the inductor.

In crucible melting furnaces, there are two constructive types: with fastening of the turns with pins and tie. Inductors in most cases are manufactured with multi-turn, and the need for an insulating gap between the turns leads to the fact that the actual current density in the inductor is several times higher than the calculated one (since the cross-sections of the insulation gaps are excluded from the total cross-section of the inductor) and, as a result, the multi-turn inductor losses will not be equal to losses in a solid cylinder.

On large furnaces with a capacity of more than 1000 kg for steel or cast iron, open water-cooled coils are located above and below the inductor coil, which do not have an electric power supply and serve as a screening of the furnace frame and for cooling the upper and lower parts of the crucible walls.
